Our Mission Statement
The general purpose of this non-profit corporation is to support the critical lifesaving work of the men and women who have dedicated their lives to protect the City of Newark. The organization plans to provide and promote programs and events that will provide fire safety education for both the public and the members of the Newark Fire Department. Through education the goal of the foundation is to reduce or eliminate firefighter deaths or injuries.
Additionally, the organization will be raising funds to provide the members of the Newark Fire Department with technology or equipment that may currently not be provided because of budget limitations within the department.
Finally, the organization will promote goodwill between the City of Newark, Firefighters and the residents they serve, by providing community outreach events and fire prevention events.

John P. Meixedo
Battalion Chief Meixedo's career began in the early 1990s in the private sector, where he gained valuable experience in engineering and management at Ford Motor Company and BMW of North America. Driven by a desire to serve the community, he joined the Newark Fire Department in 2002 and progressed through the ranks to become a Battalion Chief. In addition to his professional responsibilities, he has been actively involved in charitable and goodwill initiatives such as Tunnel 2 Towers, winter coat drives for children, and food drives for those in need. He has also served nearly a decade as a delegate for the Newark Fire Officers Union.

Michael Moura
Firefighter Moura began his professional career in the banking industry, starting as a Teller and advancing to the position of Sales Manager, where he developed a strong foundation in leadership, operations, and customer service. He later entered public service in 2011 as a New Jersey State Corrections Officer. In 2014, he joined the Bergen County Sheriff’s Office, further expanding his law enforcement experience. In 2017, he was appointed to the Newark Fire Department, where he currently serves as a Firefighter, continuing a demonstrated commitment to public safety, professional excellence, and community service.

Richard J. Mackey
Captain Richard Mackey has proudly served with the Newark Fire Department since his appointment in March 2006 and was promoted to Captain in December 2015. Assigned to Engine 18, Tour 1, he brings extensive experience as a Certified Fire Inspector, Fire Instructor Level II, Hazmat Officer and Technician, Confined Space Rescue Technician, Foam Officer, and Shipboard/Maritime Firefighter. Captain Mackey is a TEEX Texas A&M Guest Instructor for Advanced Flammable Liquids, a member of the Newark Fire Honor Guard, an officer of the Newark Fire Department Historical Association, a State Caisson Chauffeur, and an Eagle Scout.
